Cricket, Chappers and Award Ceremonies

Hello and welcome along.

Yesterday was a busy old day. I managed to blag a ticket to watch the One Day International at the Oval - big thanks to Chappers for that one. It was a lovely day for it, even if I was a tired mess! Met Chappers there just as he was about to do the on pitch entertainment dressed in the England one day kit (pictured opposite).

So anyway, left the cricket about 1pm to pop along to an award ceremony. I was asked if I would present an award at The Stroke Association's annual "Life After Stroke Awards". It recognises people who have had strokes and survived have rebuilt their lives. It was a fantastic afternoon and I met some incredible people. Makes you realise what real problems are really eh? Have a look at their website, you'll learn alot, I learnt a hell of alot yesterday. I, along with Gail Porter, presented an award to a brilliant lady called Nicola Harkin who had a stroke at the age of 22.

So, have a little look at their website if you get a minute. I also bumped into Dr Fox and celebrity friend, Nick Hewer from the Apprentice (remember him from this entry?!) Haha! I'm so showbiz now.

More later. Bed for me now. Not showbiz in the slightest. Don't worry, I haven't changed.

P.S. Just heard Westwood chatting to Zane from Glastonbury. One of the funniest phone calls I've ever heard. I will be playing this out on the show in the morning. AMAZING.

Nice touch...

Coldplay's single, "Viva La Vida" is currently number 1 in the UK's 'Hit Parade'. This is their first ever number 1 which is hard to believe eh?!

Anyway, have a look at what they've written on their website about it...Nice touch eh?!

Yeah, up yours, Crazy Frog.

I found this, and I it just made me laugh. Coldplay haven't got a new video yet, so this bloke has done this:

Writing this whilst on air...

Thought I'd give this a go quickly. Neil is currently answering the phones for the MP3 Game - the part of the show where someone has the chance to pick a song from my MP3 player. I thought I'd sneakily write an entry.

Not much else to say really, should get back to the big show really!

Reasons I hate London...

I am going to do this as and when something about London annoys me...

Let's start it off with:

1) Why does every little news agent charge you 50p extra when you pay with your debit card?! It would have been an extra £1 if I was using a credit card too! What year is this? Why do they charge? Does it cost THEM any more? Why should I have to pay even more than their already inflated prices because they haven't realised that we're in 2008 and its quite normal that people buy things on debit card for under £5. This clearly annoyed me. And its Monday. I hate Mondays - and not because the weekend's over, they're just boring days. Nothing good ever happens on Mondays. Its just people moaning. Oh wait, am I doing that now?

Sod off then, I'm going to sleep, think I'm delirious again now.

Goodnight!

Busy boy...

What a busy weekend! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE being on the radio and covering other shows is fun but after a week of earlies, an extra 2 days is a real killer! Had good fun covering for Annie Mac over the weekend, its always nice to get an airing during daylight hours! Even if Fearne and I did fall out because I ACCIDENTALLY blanked her. We made up though.

Listen again to the handover at about 2hrs 50mins in...

I survived though and am now sitting around at home having a bowl of Bran Flakes (trying to be healthy) watching BBC Breakfast. Its quite a good show actually. Except they repeat themselves every 15 minutes.

Just paid a few bills, and now going to tidy up this place, its an absolute mess.

The rest of my day is looking quite busy though...Popping to the gym a bit later, really need to get going on the training for the Great North Run I'm doing in October. Rubbish. Its for a good cause though, the Anthony Nolan Trust.

More later...

WOW!

Oh my god. Just did the Zane Lowe vs. Had so much fun. So much fun. Dropped a few beauties, and, its got to be said, a couple of howlers. Well, one howler:

Anyway, so you can listen again if you didn't hear it all first time round. Me and Zane had a laugh and I think we walked away from it with our heads held high. Let's call it a draw.

Bedtime. Gotta be up in...oh...4 hours.

Got that bloody maths exam tomorrow too. I hate exams.

Hopefully no one does this to me. I could do it to Chappers though:

Tonight on 1FM...

Just finished the show and now going to pop off home to get some rest before my big sound clash tonight with Zane. Have got my box of hits all sorted - there are some absolute beauties in there.

Zane fancies his chances, but let's be honest, he IS Zane Lowe and is renowned for being quite good at this sort of thing.

I don't really know what's going to happen but I promise it'll be entertaining radio!

Good morning!

What's with not being able to get to sleep?! I hate that so much. I was all tucked up by 8:30 last night and didn't finally nod off until half 10! Arrrrrgh! So annoying. Ain't no rest for the wicked, eh?

Speaking of which, this is one of my favourite songs around at the moment and it sums up how I feel perfectly. Its by Cage The Elephant. Great new band.

Anyways, this link that Colin Murray emailed round has cheered me up:

Brilliant isn't it!

Best be off - I'm on air in a minute...

Little update

Spoke to Producer Neil earlier, he's feeling very unwell - and so am I actually. We're having one of those pathetic days today. We think someone's drugged us to sabotage the show. Not sure who though. Any ideas?

I abandoned the "going to the gym" idea (surprise surprise) and am watching an old episode of Inspector Morse. Is it wrong that I'm enjoying it...ALOT?! Its perfect rainy day, feeling a bit rough entertainment.
I've got so much boring house stuff to do, bills, tax blah blah blah - can't be arsed. It'll wait till tomorrow!

I'm a mess today

Welcome along,

I'm sitting up at Dave TV HQ as I've just finished recording my hilarious links for next week's shows. If you didn't know, I'm the voice that pops up during the day saying "coming up next, Top Gear" etc.

There is a big TV in the Dave studio and it always shows a random TV channel on it. Today, its The Jewellery Channel. Random. I think I'm the only person watching it. I'm quite tempted to buy something though. I wonder if they need someone to do the voiceovers on their channel? "Coming up next, The Wedding Ring Hour, after more Amethyst Artifacts".

Anyway, what else is going on? Me and Producer Neil are having a big meeting later to discuss what hilarious stuff we're going to do when I cover for Scott in a couple of weeks. Its going to be strange doing that because its a show I've always listened to when I was growing up. Funny how things work out sometimes isn't it!

The rest of today is looking like a washout though. Might just go home and tidy up a bit. Or maybe I'll pop to the gym. I went yesterday for the first time in about 3 weeks and I lasted 15 minutes. Well done me.

Oh, just received a text from Neil - he's just cancelled the meeting today because he's too much of a mess. Great! Hard to believe that its these two divs are going to be in charge of Radio 1's Drivetime show in a couple of weeks...Good luck everyone!

Anyway, here's a little video that I think you'll enjoy:

That's all for now!

Coldplay, birthdays and sleep

Good morning everybody!

Welcome along to my second post (don't worry, I'm not going to count every post I do).

Before I begin, I must admit that I am a mess today. Was out last night with the family celebration my mum's 60th birthday. Had a lovely evening last night, so did my mum who was loving the attention. We wined and dined her at some swanky restaurant near Tower Bridge - which was nice.

Last night, Coldplay did an incredible gig at the Brixton Academy in London for Radio 1. Coldplay are my favourite band and have been since I was about 12. However, the gig fell on the eve of my mum's birthday, not just any birthday mind you. 60th. A big one. I had to sacrifice my beloved band for her. And what a good choice too. Not only was it a great evening, I'd never be able to take my washing for her to do ever again.

Seriously though, if you're a Coldplay fan, you need to see them live sometime soon. They will just blow you away. There's still some tickets available from various places: http://www.seetickets.com/gat/coldplay.html

Anywhooo, I managed to get along to see them on Friday at a special rehearsal gig at Wembley Arena. It was for friends and family of Coldplay...and urrrm, music industry nobs. Guess which category I was in. I would love to put some photos up online of the night but we weren't allowed to take any. Top secret stuff.

Anyway, that's all for now. I'm off to sleep.

More soon...

The first entry ever

Welcome along to my brand new blog.

This is the place to come to discuss everything that happens on the Early Breakfast show on Radio 1. That's the show I do, in case you didn't realise.

Anywaaaay, welcome along.

I'm new to all this, but it'll all pan out quite nicely when we're a few entries in, I'm sure. I'll be sharing with you some of the stuff I get up to after the show, funny things I might see out and about, and any other random stuff I come across on the Internet. All sorts, its going to be an exciting experiment and all I can say is you won't wanna miss a post because who knows what I'm going to end up writing. I say this, because I'm nearly always tired and delirious.

This is also a place for my friends and family to find out what I've been up to so that I don't feel as bad when I don't ring them.

Sooooooo, this week on the big show has been very busy indeed. It started off on Monday night when I was lucky enough to go to the taping of the final episode of The Apprentice (THE absolute best show on the TV right now - no contest).

All the stars were there, Lorraine Kelly, Sarah Greene and her husband Mike Smith (remember them?), Carole Smilie and Vanessa Feltz. Impressed? Probably not. Well, let me just say this...I also met Sir Alan himself, and managed to chat to him about business for about 3 minutes. He is just like he is on TV. Stern. I also met Nick Hewer (pictured above), one of Sir Alan's aids, and he was great. Very nice guy and he agreed to do an interview for the show - which you can hear here:

Tuesday saw the arrival of my first ever Live Lounge performance by the North East's premier holiday park act, 'The Stilleto Girlz'. They did a couple of covers for me, and you can see the video of it all here.

I also went to Jenny Abramsky's summer drinks party the other evening. Jenny Abramsky is the Queen of radio at the BBC, she is the boss of all bosses and also a lovely lady. Met her there and she knew who I was, which was good news, but the thing she remembered was that I was the bloke "who dressed up as Kylie". Remember that?! Crazy days eh? All the stars of the BBC were there - Alan Titchmarsh, Nicholas Parsons (from Just a Minute), Richard Bacon and the god of the airwaves - Terry Wogan.

So, Monday I went to The Apprentice, and Wednesday I was sipping wine with BBC legends. What happened Thursday I hear you ask? Well, on Thursday, I had a day which I like to call "At home with Greg". I cleaned the shower, washed my pants and changed the sheets. I wonder if Terry ever has to do that?

If you're bored, you could pretend you're me and play this little game I found.

Anyway, that's all for now I think. If there's anything else, I'll just pop back and shove it up on here.

Cheers
